In announcing the news, Roskomnadzor highlighted all the willingness that the CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov has in confronting terrorism and extremism. Allegedly, this announcement comes in response to a recent statement from the CEO you claim that the app and it’s team have been actively combating terrorism and extremism on the messenger whilst insuring use of privacy on the platform. In a post on the 4th of June, the CEO further highlighted at the company events in thousands of public statements encouraging violence each month. He further said: “Each month, Telegram team is now preventing tens of thousands of attempts to distribute public incitement to violence and terror. […] Telegram has developed a system preventing global terrorist acts while ensuring privacy of correspondence in line with Telegram’s privacy policy.” It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
